Pottery, Basketry and Moccasin Making

I am skilled in the areas of traditional moccasin making, basketry, and pottery. I teach these arts full-time, but I am also a consultant and I regularly give workshops and demonstrations in each field.

Pottery: I use Native clay to make a wide variety of pieces, and I also teach proper firing methods and the use of firing fuels.

My pottery has been featured in a documentary DVD called MUD: The Creation Of Traditional Navajo Pottery. It shows how our pottery is made—the clay that is used, how it is molded and finally how it is fired using traditional fuels. The DVD is geared towards first–time makers of Native pottery and also includes some explanation of traditional Navajo symbols. The film is in Navajo with English subtitles narrating the lessons. The DVD can be ordered directly from me and they are $24.00 plus $2.50 for shipping and handling. Email to order a copy

Moccasin Making: I make miniatures for displays, infant sizes, infant displays, short–cut moccasins, female moccasins with leggings, and high–tops for men.

Basketry: I do beginning workshops using yawns for general basketry, and cane for making waterjugs. In my advanced level classes I teach the use of sumac.
